The search for magic

When I was a a little girl I loved it when my mom would take my brother and I to look at Christmas lights.  The world was transformed into something new and shining.
Now I find myself longing for that magic even when it isn't Christmas time.  And maybe it's not the magic I'm searching for, but the ability to feel it in everyday moments.  I have grown up into a cynical woman who longs to be less cynical.

I've come to realize that certain objects hold the power to transport the mind and change emotions, like the feel of an acclaimed book in your hands, the smell of a hand made soap or a favorite pair of earrings.  The change may only last a moment, but it's enough to dull that sharp edge.
